Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Sony E APS-C
The Tamron 17-70 mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Sony E APS-C is a bright zoom lens for Sony's APS-C mirrorless cameras. For APS-C cameras, this is the first interchangeable lens with 4.1x standard zoom and brightness aperture f/2.8 with a focal length of 17-70mm (25.5-105mm converted at full-frame). Thanks to the short focusing distance of 19 cm at wide angle and 39 cm at telephoto, beautiful macro pictures with impressive bokeh can be taken. Portrait, landscape or street, this lens is ideal for capturing life's best moments in detailed photos.
The 17-70 mm f/2.8 has Tamron's VC image stabiliser. This stabiliser ensures optimal sharpness when shooting hand-held, because it effectively eliminates unwanted camera movements. The optical performance of the lens is optimally exploited when using the stabiliser, making it possible to shoot even with slower shutter speeds, at dusk or indoors. Because the VC technology uses artificial intelligence, better image stabilization is ensured during filming.
The autofocus works with the silent RXD stepper motor (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive). The AF system has a sensor that constantly determines the current focus of the lens. This ensures fast and precise autofocus.

Question: What is the minimum focal length of the lens?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The minimum focal length is 17 mm. A short focal length allows for wide-angle shots, which are particularly valuable for landscape and architectural photography, as more of the subject fits into the frame.
Translated from: German
Question: What is the maximum focal length?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The maximum focal length is 70 mm. A longer focal length allows you to bring distant subjects closer, which is useful for portraits or close-up shots.
Translated from: German
Question: What aperture range is available?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The aperture ranges from F/2.8 to F/22. A large aperture (F/2.8) allows plenty of light in and creates beautiful blur effects (bokeh), while smaller apertures (F/22) offer greater depth of field.

Question: How many aperture blades does the lens have?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The lens has 9 aperture blades. More aperture blades result in a rounder aperture opening and a more pleasing bokeh, which is particularly advantageous for portraits and creative photography.

Question: How long is the lens?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The length is 119 mm. A compact lens is easier to transport and is well suited for travel and everyday use.
Translated from: German
Question: How much does the lens weigh?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: It weighs 525 grams. A relatively lightweight lens makes extended handheld shooting easier and is comfortable to carry when traveling.

Question: What is the size of the filter thread?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The filter thread has a diameter of 67 mm. A common filter diameter makes it easier to buy and replace filters such as polarizing or ND filters.

Question: What is the minimum focusing distance?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The minimum focusing distance is 19 cm in wide-angle mode and 39 cm in telephoto mode. A short minimum focusing distance enables impressive macro shots and creative perspectives with beautiful bokeh.
Translated from: German
Question: What is the maximum field of view?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The maximum angle of view is 79.6 degrees. A wide angle of view is ideal for landscape and interior shots, as it captures more of the subject.
Translated from: German
Question: How is the lens structure designed?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The lens consists of 16 elements in 12 groups. A complex lens arrangement helps to minimize aberrations and achieve high image quality.
Translated from: German
Question: What type of image stabilization does the lens have?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: It features a built-in VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilizer, which compensates for camera movement. Image stabilization enables sharper shots in low light or with longer exposure times and is particularly helpful when filming.
Translated from: German
Question: Can the lens be updated with firmware updates?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: Yes, the lens supports firmware upgrades. Firmware updates can improve performance and add new features, increasing the lens's longevity and versatility.
Translated from: German
Question: Is the lens protected against dust and splashes of water?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: Yes, the housing is dustproof and splashproof. This increases reliability and the range of use in bad weather or demanding environments.
Translated from: German
Question: What coating is present on the lens?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The lens has a fluorine coating. This coating makes the lens more resistant to dirt and easier to clean, which is especially practical when traveling.
Translated from: German
Question: What focusing options does the lens offer?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The lens supports both manual and autofocus. This flexibility is very helpful in different shooting situations.
Translated from: German
Question: Which autofocus technologies are supported?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The lens offers fast hybrid autofocus and Eye AF (eye autofocus). Hybrid AF combines phase and contrast detection for fast and precise focusing, while Eye AF automatically focuses on the eyes of a person – especially useful for portraits.
Translated from: German
Question: Is focusing during filming silent?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: Yes, the lens focuses almost silently during filming thanks to the RXD motor (Rapid eXtra-Silent Stepping Drive). A quiet autofocus system prevents background noise during video recording, thus improving sound quality.
Translated from: German
Question: Is there an internal lens correction?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: Yes, the lens supports in-camera lens correction. This feature reduces optical aberrations such as distortion and vignetting directly in the camera, improving image quality.
Translated from: German
Question: What type of lens mount does the lens use?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: The lens uses the Sony E-mount. This ensures broad compatibility with modern Sony cameras and allows for quick and secure lens changes.
Translated from: German
Question: For which type of camera is the lens suitable?
Asked by Guest | 17-03-2026
Answer from Guest
Answer: It is designed for Sony's APS-C mirrorless cameras. APS-C sensors are smaller than full-frame sensors and offer a good balance of image quality, size, and price.
