Developed as the top model of the Pentax WG series, the Pentax WG-8 compact camera boasts a host of advanced yet user-friendly features. For instance, the WG-8 has a back-illuminated 1/2.3’ CMOS sensor with 20 megapixels and its compact and lightweight, yet very sturdy body allows you to take on almost any adventure. The camera has a zoom range 28 to 140mm (equivalent in 35mm format) and thanks to its webcam function, you can also use it for school or work. For example, the special LED ring light combined with macro distance allows you to share even the smallest subjects in a small circle or with the whole world. By simply putting the WG-8 into UVC (USB Video Class) mode and connecting it to a computer via the supplied USB cable, it can be used as a camera for real-time streaming of Full HD video footage at 30 frames per second.
This high-quality compact camera offers a light sensitivity of ISO 6400 and its super-resolution technology means you will always take sharp, clear, high-resolution images. The camera also features Hand-held Night Snap mode, which automatically captures multiple images of the same night scene and creates one blur-free composite image from them. The lens consists of 11 elements, including 5 aspherical ones, in 9 groups. The zoom range of 28 to 140mm makes it easy to shoot close-ups, wide landscapes or beautiful portraits. Moreover, you can choose from a wide range of exposure options, such as 18 scene modes, or let your creativity run wild with 12 digital filters.
The Pentax WG-8 also lets you shoot videos in 4K resolution at 30fps in H.264 format. Besides Movie SR (Shake Reduction) mode, it also features the new Movie SR+ mode, which creates a stabilisation effect similar to that of a gimbal. So you are guaranteed to capture high-quality video during active, fast-paced outdoor activities. The large 3.0’ LCD screen has high resolution and features an anti-reflection coating that prevents annoying glare during recordings. For accurate alignment of your image, you can also use the electronic spirit level.
The rugged body of the Pentax WG-8 is not only waterproof to a depth of 20 metres for up to two hours (IPX8 or JIS class 8), but also shockproof against falls from heights of up to 2.1 metres, dustproof (IPX6 or JIS class 6), cold-resistant to -10°C and shockproof to 100kg.
