The PROSTAFF 5 spotting scopes are entry-level models in the Nikon spotting scope range and the successors to the RA III series. The bodies of the PROSTAFF 5 spotting scopes are approximately 20% lighter than the current RA III. The new zoom eyepiece objective minimises chromatic aberration at the edge of the field of view and offers a long eye relief for greater viewing comfort.

The three types of eyepiece objectives with digiscoping compatibility can be connected to the range of compact digital cameras from the COOLPIX series, using the FSB-series bracket ring.
