By increasing the aperture or slowing down the shutter speed, you can control the depth of field and convey motion more easily. Neutral density filters have no effect on the colour of the image and are ideal for combining with other filters.
ND filters can produce sweep effects during movement when the shutter speed can be extended with the required aperture. A waterfall then no longer appears frozen, but as a flowing movement. ND filters create ingenious effects in architectural or urban photography. With long exposures of several hours, people walking through the shot appear blurred or not at all. For physical reasons, very dense filters have a warm tone that can be compensated for in post-processing.
The excellent, finely ground and polished special glass is used as the basis for the new ND filter glass. This guarantees the necessary optical quality and also has no adverse effect on a correspondingly high-quality lens. With the thin-film technology developed here, it is not only the pure ND filter effect that delivers results: a 3-layer combination coating also optimises the ND filter.
An important criterion for a perfect B+W filter is a high-quality coating, also known as an anti-reflection coating. In a B+W filter, such layers are vapour-deposited using thin-layer technology, a fairly complex coating process. The coating material consists of special substrates that are applied in one or more layers depending on the coating system. With the MRC nano-coated B+W filter, a water droplet remains practically spherical. It rolls across the surface, creating a first-class dirt- and water-repellent effect.
