Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III is a compact, lightweight mirrorless camera with a Live MOS sensor, delivering 20.4 megapixel. The camera features weather-resistant sealing, high-quality autofocus and a powerful image stabilisation system. Olympus has also equipped the camera with a wide range of shooting functions and creative in-camera options, which makes the E-M5 Mark III a versatile camera. Combined with its compact build, this means you can easily take the camera with you everywhere.
The camera combines the 20.4 megapixel Live MOS sensor with the fast TruePic VIII image processor that was previously used in the OM-D E-M1 Mark II. This results in minimal distortion at the edges of the image and minimal noise, even at high ISO settings. The sensor is cleaned using Olympus' acclaimed SSWF technology (Super Sonic Wave Filter), which makes the sensor filter vibrate 30,000 times per second when you switch on the camera to remove dust.
The E-M5 Mark III features a compact image stabilisation unit and integrated 5-axis image stabilisation. The TruePic VIII image processor uses camera movement data from the gyro sensor and image analysis to control the stabilisation unit. This allows you to compensate by up to 5.5 shutter speed stops at a focal length of 40mm. When you combine the body with a stabilised lens, this even increases to 6.5 stops.
The camera has Olympus' on-chip integrated phase-detection AF system with 121 cross-type points. The algorithm has been improved compared to previous models, which minimises the chance of incorrect focusing. The E-M5 Mark III uses AF/AE tracking at up to 10 frames per second. The algorithm for moving subjects uses AF data from Live View and recorded images to quickly track unpredictable movements and speed changes of a subject.
Olympus has given the E-M5 Mark III a distinctive design. The camera has a large viewfinder for an extra clear view. For a secure grip, the camera has thumb rests on the back and a larger handgrip. The camera is also dust-, splash- and freeze-proof, provided it is combined with a weather-resistant M.Zuiko lens. This way you don't have to worry if you get caught in a rain shower. All components in the Mark III have been significantly reduced in size, making the body very compact. Even with a lens attached, the whole setup remains handy enough to take anywhere.
The camera is equipped with versatile shooting options. For example, you can capture long exposures with Live Composite, ideal for photos with light trails. With Pro Capture mode, you shoot at 14 frames per second from the moment you half-press the shutter button. This way you never miss the moment.
High Res Shot lets you take photos of up to 50 megapixel on a tripod. This is achieved by shifting the image sensor in steps of 0.5 pixel, taking 8 shots in a row and then combining them. With Focus Bracketing you can take up to 999 shots with just one press of the shutter button, with the focus changing for each shot. These can later be combined with Focus Stacking into a single photo with a greater depth of field.
With Custom mode you save all your favourite camera settings and can activate them instantly by turning the mode dial to C. With SCN mode (Scene) you can choose from six photography themes with the corresponding optimal settings. The E-M5 Mark III is also equipped with 16 creative filter options, which you can preview on the LCD screen before taking the photo.
Besides photos, you can of course also record video with the E-M5 Mark III, in C4K, 4K, Full HD and HD. The integrated phase-detection AF sensor is used to achieve optimal focus. You can also count on the 5-axis stabilisation here.
Via Bluetooth you can easily connect the camera to your smartphone. With the Olympus Image Share (OI.Share) app, you quickly transfer the captured images to your phone. The Share Order function even allows you to automatically send selected images on the camera to your smartphone when the camera is switched off.
